Australie in Belgie

I'm currently managing to hold my eyes open for the last half hour of work, despite running on barely any sleep Im actually functioning quite well.

I had to drag myself out of bed this morning at 3:45am to get ready to catch the train/Eurostar back to London from Belgium. We left on Friday and got there about midnight... Stayed up pretty late talking with Phil's Mum.. Well we tried to talk to each other but I know about as much Flemish as she does English so Phil had to do a lot of translating for us.

Saturday we finally made it into Brussels about 3pm, Phil drove me to the big shopping place called Dod... He went to the men's shop and I went to the women's. 4 floors of clothes, shoes, lingerie.. Needless to say Phil had to come in and give me a hurry up (and then made a swift exit!) We then drove around the city centre and looked at the palace, market square and halls... and the naked lady and peeing man. The naked lady is a gold moulding on a door of one of the buildings in the market square. You are supposed to touch the statue for good luck. Considering it was put there in 1388 some of the areas are.. ahem.. pretty well worn. The little peeing man is a copper statue (I think.. Im not to au fai with what they are made of) of suprisingly enough a little man peeing - it symbolises the Belgie's attitude to being told what to do by the government.. or pretty much anyone! We walked through the market hall where they have Phil's shoe shop (a very expensive shoe shop called Phillipe) and apparently one of the best chocolate shops.. for €10 for 250g I think they would bloody better be! Will try some next time.

We walked around some more and then headed to Phil's mates house. He lives in Gent and we went out with some others and had an extremely boozy night. The beer they drink is Duvel's (means devil) and is 8.5%. Its pretty much what you turn into when you drink it. I think we rolled in around 6am.. after stopping for a Bikkie burger and frittes (chips).. actually it was more a Bikkie burger with mayonnaise and gravy topped with potatoes. At that time of the morning after drinking since 8pm it wasn't looking all too appealing but Phil was happy that he had his Belgian fries. I think I was just happy I kept the contents of my stomach.

The next day we woke up (or recovered from alcohol induced unconsciousness) to have to rush to the restuarant with Phils Mum, brother, brother's girlfriend and her Mother. The food was beautiful and I did try the eel with green sauce (paling wit greonsaus) but the sauce wasn't really something for me. The steak I had was beautiful and came with lots of chips & fresh salad. As far as food and beer goes.. Belgium gets the thumbs up. We managed to catch Phil's friends basketball game in the evening and got kicked out about 10pm when the bar shut..

Since its Phil's birthday today Im going to cook him dinner.. then its an early night!!!

Mondayitis

I went to see John Butler Trio on Friday night, we got there early and John Butler walked straight past us.. I didn't even realise til I heard the girl next to me go that was John Butler.. I thought the dreads looked familiar! Pretty good gig but they did these heaps extended solos which kinda bore me after awhile.. Not to mention these 2 chicks next to us who just non-stop blabbed about crap. Beef of the week - People who insist on carrying on a normal conversation whilst in a gig.

Did some more shopping on Saturday... Went to Covent Garden to buy some stuff for my brothers, saw this really nice ring in Quiksilver but it was too expensive :'( Need to buy Chrissy presents, send Chrissy presents (I think Im singlehandedly keeping Royal Mail alive) yada yada yada... Oxford Street and all around there is a complete moshpit.. Its crazy and its still only the middle of November. Only have a few pressies left to buy so Im chuffed.

Its only a few days until I go to Belgium.. very excited.. need to practise my Flemish too.

This is cool btw - Simpson's Millionaire

Yay for Hump Day

So Ive actually managed to make some real headway with updating my blog.. *puts on chufty badge. Not only that I built the CSS layout (with some help from Phil too) so its actually reasonably up to date with int0rweb trends too.. *puts on another even larger chufty badge.

Still have to add all my photos and lots of other bits and pieces but its looking heaps better than before..

Went to see Eyes, Lies & Illusions at the Hayward Gallery last night, cept it closed at 8pm and we had to rush round the second floor of the exhibition. They even had one of those trapezoid rooms where you look bigger or smaller and little cardboard hand cut-outs that showed you how to make shadow puppets with your hands.. I used to love doing that as a kid when we were tenting with the fam.. awww memories.. Anyways they also had funny mirrors. If you're like me and stlll a 5 year old at heart its a great exhibition to see.

Its also Hump Day (middle of the week) and tonight I will be playing netball again... Show us your fitness! Can't wait til Friday... Going to see John Butler Trio... w00t!!

Its been awhile

I know, I know.. Its been like forever. Ive been to Australia and have been back in London for almost a month now. My trip home went so fast. I wasn't so sad to leave because I don't feel far away from my family so much, not even my friends, maybe the little puppy but otherwise Im happy here. However now winter is setting in, its cold and miserable, it gets dark so early and I do miss having everyone around... Not to mention its Dinga's birthday soon, Shez's birthday, Lil Benny's 18th birthday and my birthday. Oh and that Christmas nonsense. From now on its best to avoid the large mosh pit that is Oxford Street...

I havent been up to heaps since I've been back.. Drinking with the work crew, seeing some movies and going to galleries, the usual. I bought a new teev and dvd player. Phil then took ownership of my remote controls within about 2 seconds of me pulling them out of the box and was playing with all the features and functions for the next hour or so. He did help me lug it home from ASDA (shop a short bus ride or taxi ride away thats kinda like a Big W)...

Ive actually been learning to speak Flemish (a dialect of Dutch they speak in Belgium) although with my Australian accent (whats left of it you say) I cant make some of the sounds. Phil even got some cartoons for me to read.. I felt like a little kid again.. I only have 2 more weeks to learn enough Flemish to be able to say something to Phil's Mum and not come across as a loud bloody Australian... Highly unlikely but worth a shot.

Anyways Im going to get back to working on my blog redesign.. Its been quiet at work and I need the CSS practise, so its working out well!
