Work : a four letter word or a joy?

Guardian Unlimited Money | Special_reports | Work is a four letter word for those in their 30s ... but a joy for the relaxed over 60s
So Im not in my 30's but Im finding with design, that work life balance doesnt exist. Well maybe it does but where work ends personal projects or doing designery stuff seems to start.. seeing galleries, museums, working on my blog, my sketchbook etc etc. I love what I do but surely there is going to be a time where a job is just a job, Im going to want to be home at 6pm and just be able to switch off and not think about it anymore... What do you think? Do you have a work/life balance?

urggh I feel sick... Head full of cold, stomach is hurting (for no apparent good reason)... Feel like warmed up death atm... urgggh bring on the weekend.

*goes to lie down

Weekend started ok.. I decided to leave the pub early because I was shattered, still hadnt managed to catch up from Budapest and didn't want to get ratarsed. Phil said he would be back at mine about 12ish but if he was going to keep drinking he would let me know... I didnt hear anything and was bloody worried out of my mind. I even dragged myself out of bed at 7:30am to catch the tube to Bethnal Green to see if he had made it home. According to his stupid landlord he wasnt home and he wouldn't let me in to check in his room. I went to Nichola's (a mate I work with) to see if she could help me track him down... We called about 6 people we work with to work out his movements. In the end we thought we would try his flat again. Just before we got there he rang me asking why he had so many missed calls! Completely oblivious to how much trouble he had caused. Im planning on composing some msn messages to save in his outbox he can write and send without so much thought so I wont be so worried next time he is boozed and supposed to be somewhere. Men!

My room mate from my Europe trip arrived last night (the one I went on in 2003) and is dossing with me for week or so. We've had a bit of a laugh reminiscing about our antics in Europe, all the way back in September & October 2003.

Budapest and Monty Python

As you may have noticed, I have made some updates to the site. There is content (of some sort) on all the pages. The photos page has links to all my Flickr! stuff, my contact information (well some of it) is there, the archives are all linked and I have even finished naming and posting all my photos from Flickr! to my blog.. so if you want to see my earlier adventures then go back through the archives. I've even updated what Im reading, watching etc. This all links to Amazon stuff so buy! buy! You dont have to but I would be chuffed if just one person purchased a book or something I recommended. Actually I would be chuffed if any of the following happened - Someone linked me, subscribed to my blog in Bloglines, there was an article in PopDex or Technorati about my site and I actually got regular comments.

But enough about that...

Phil and I flew into Budapest last Thursday morning (after doing the 2am Luton mission again) and into a balmy -18C. It was freezing but nice and sunny. After going to our hostel in Central Pest (woohoo a proper double bed and a tv but lets not talk about the rest) we decided to check out the local area. Visited the National Museum of Hungary which was very interesting and then had dinner at a restaurant called Arany Pince. Definitely recommend the Hungarian wine from the Eger region.. very nice red wine. Over the next few days we had a big dump of snow, went to Statue Park, visited 3 art galleries, crossed the chain bridge, visited the Gellert Baths, found the most amazing restaurant called Fatal where they had courses so large Phil actually didnt finish one. Ate lots of strange pastry things whose names I can't spell or pronounce. I had a really good time and was absolutely shattered when I got back.

Last night we went to see Monty Pythons Flying Circus In French (with subtitles.) was very enjoyable. Except for the bits they were ad libbing and I couldn't understand it. I knew it was funny because Phil was pissing himself, the actors were pissing themselves and the half of the audience who understood French were pissing themselves. Thumbs up but its only on for another week or so at Riverside Studios.

Well thats all, almost 6pm and time for the pub!

Arggh freezing!

Not in London.. hell Im used to the British winter now. Im talking about Budapest. That is cold! Im still chuffed that I have a 3 day week, its just a pity I have so much to do.. I guess I would be bored otherwise.

With Valentines Day coming up.. I was hoping this year I might get something! Although we get back from Budapest at 11pm so even service station flowers are going to be pushing it, not to mention Phil thinks its American crap. I just msn'd him this link. Having said that Im all for random gestures of kindness rather than enforced stuff, hell I'd be pleased to see flowers wrapped in Alfoil 'borrowed' from someone's garden...

And how chuffed am I? I bought Phil this shirt from Threadless for Christmas. Except he wore it once and his deoderant/sweaty armpit BO made these bright flouro pink stains on it. I thought just chuck it in the wash - it will be apples. Unfortunately no. I was quite gutted because that was his favourite of the two.. The other one was the Tecso juice carton and it was a bright umm yellow for him. Anyways I thought I would drop a line to Threadless and they offered me a $15 credit to buy a new one. I was v happy.

Anyways work calls so will post after our Budapest trip.
