Anzac Day
Since its ANZAC day today I made some Anzac Biscuits to take into work. The dawn service was at 5am in Hyde Park, so it would have meant getting up super early to be there in time. I just couldn't handle getting up that early and then working all day. Next year I think I will book the day off so I can go to the dawn service, then onto Westminster Abbey to see the actual church service.
I feel really strongly about Anzac Day personally, having been to Turkey a few years ago. Especially since Im in London. A couple of English people I work with were having a laugh about it and it just felt a bit disrespectful. Its a bit like taking the piss out of Rememberance Day. Anzac Day is the one bit of history and culture that we actually have. Whilst Australia Day is all about the British settling the colonies (and also a day that Aborigines see as Invasion Day) Anzac Day is more of a pivotal point in how we forged an identity for ourselves.
