The "Mess Breakfast"

I did finally manage to go see Westminster Abbey. I have some notes here, jotted down on a napkin in a cafe..

Its expensive (Its £10 entry) and busy - Go early and on a weekday. There are tourists ebbing and flowing like a dam through every nook and cranny.

Highlights in the abbey were Chapter House, the Lady Chapel, Poets Corner and the Unknown Soldier but there is sooo much to see that you would be in there forever if you looked at everything.

Read the Da Vinci Code or watch a coronation beforehand if Royalty is your thing. Reading or watching a famous place before visiting gives you an insight. I found it quite overwhelming.

Eternal rest - hardly! There are 1000's upon 1000's of people shuffling around there all day, most of them tourists.. sounds like my idea of hell. Ive had a headache since I got home!!

If all that has worn you out, there is a Cafe in the basement of Chapter Hall just across the road from the Abbey. Its full of beautiful plastic canteen furniture and wipeable plastic table covers. Its like being at a roadside convenience restaurant in the middle of London. However, its not a rip-off and its largely removed from tourist central.

Another option is to keep walking away from the Abbey to the Jewel Tower. They have a little exhibition in there, as well as some indoor and outdoor seating. Not sure how pricey it is but it looked the tourist hordes hadn't quite discovered it just yet.

Well thats me done for the weekend. I think Im allergic to tourists because I've had a headache sine I got home despite having a rest, a nice swim/steam/spa and plenty of water. Ick.

Next weekend - maybe the History museum, maybe another place for breakfast and maybe a nap :)
