Mmmm casserole

Just on Phil's computer.. Retna is borrowing mine atm to do some banking/job/bills stuff atm. She sent hers off to get mcfixed but its not back as yet. About to have some fantastic sausage casserole that I whipped up.. except I OC'd (Over casseroled) and there is a giant pot of it.

Decided to give up on organic vegie deliveries and just order organic stuff online from Tesco or Waitrose. Not sure.. think Waitrose is a bit upmarket for me and Im trying to save money atm.

Better go... foodage!

I even actually started on my book with all my travel stuff again (tickets/photos etc) which has only taken me the best of 2 years... Im going to try to do a couple of pages a night until its finished.

As for the rest of the weekend.. it was a bit of a washout. I didn't do anything :$ I was in a well cranky mood Friday and after picking up some groceries, I headed home and watched the Unforgiven on telly. Phil had gone out drinking with work crew. He didnt get home til very late (or early as is better described) and woke me up... I woke up late in the afternoon so that kinda ruined any plan I had of going to the Tate. I spent the best part of the day watching 24 Series 1. Its been ages since I have had a lazy chillout day.

Unfortunately I was in the lazy chillout mood for the rest of the weekend and I didn't quite get to the Upmarket with Retna and Colin. I felt bad for not making it...

Anyways its Monday and I must do some work..

Dentistry

So today I went to the dentist for the first time in about.. oh three years. Oops. The dentist told me I should make an effort to go more often. Its in my PDA from now on and Im actually registered at a dentist so now I just need to find a doctors to register at. I love the NHS - you need to have an appointment to register, to get an appointment to see the doctor... Indeed.

So anyways its almost 6pm on Friday and I cant wait to get out of the office. For some reason I always get really cranky Friday, I think my tolerance level just plummets.. Its like a real life version of Im a celebrity get me out of here, except Im not a celebrity or in Australia or have to eat bugs.. so ok its not really like that but still.. you know what I mean.

Im off to the Tate Britain to see the new Gothic Nightmares exhibition. I was supposed to go with Sharon but she piked on me. I feel like going by myself because I just need some "alone time". Might head up to Manolo Blahnik which is on Kings Rd (or something posh like that) and cheer myself up by looking at expensive shoes that I can buy once I get paid. Will post a review tomorrow.

Net Disaster.. I watched all my hard work go down the drain...

Broadway Market eviction

I posted awhile back about Broadway Market and the occupation of Tony's Cafe (34 Broadway Market).. well today they were evicted and according to someone nearby they are putting sheets of steal all over it. There is a demonstration tonight at 6pm. Apparently they are having an enquiry into the whole going's on.

If it wasn't pissing down with rain I would seriously go down there.. Its been half sleety/half raining the entire day. I got completely soaked on the way to work this morning.

Anyways have some more stuff thats come in to do.. TGIF!!! tomorrow that is.

oooh Comedy

I mentioned last year about a comedy night run by Just the Tonic and today I received this email...

Ricky Gervais and a line up of some of the best comedians in the country are doing a gig at The Dominion Theatre (West End of London) to help raise money for Just the Tonic.

The event is 7pm on Sunday 19th March. This is a one off gig and members of Just the Tonic (that's you) will be able to get priority on tickets. They go on sale to the public on Friday 24th February at Midday... but you will be able to buy them from 9am on that day

The ticket outlet is Seetickets on 0871 2200260 and to be able to take advantage of this offer use the password 'Mad Dog'

This event is being staged to help raise a load of cash so that Just the Tonic can survive the sale of it's venue, Cabaret, in Nottingham with the aim of coming back bigger, brighter and funnier than before. We would like to thank all the people that take part for their help, and all of you who can make it along.

Spain and other stuff

I didn't get a chance this weekend to post about Spain. Aside from the mugging incident it was really good. We were staying right in Barri Gotic which is part of the old town. There was loads of alleyways full with cool little Tapas bars. Thorough recommend Bubo, Cellar de Tapas (which is at the water side of Barri Gotic along Placa Universitat. We had paella there and it was just brilliant. We saw the Temple de la Sagrada Familia (which is one of the Gaudi's) which is umm well gawdy. They were putting mosaics of fruit on the spires which just looked so casino gone wrong. Skip the lift there and take the stairs. Its an amazing sight from the top.

We took in a load of museums too, including Picasso (in Barri Gotic) which has lots of his early pieces. It gave a good overview of his career but doesn't have many of his really famous pieces (try MoMa in NY for that). We also took the furnicular up to the Joan Miro (which is free on some Sundays I believe). I preferred that because it had a brilliant exhibition on collage, a lot of which was familiar to me. The views up there are great too. Went past the Olympic stadium but didn't really have much of a look there. We also went to another Gaudi - La Pedrera which is the apartment building along Passieg de Gracias (one of the main drags). Thats free from Sundays after 4pm so save yourself €7 and go there then. Be warned though, the queue gets pretty big so get there around 3pm and check out the free exhibition they have on. They had an exhibition on Rembrandt - mostly etchings.

We have a few drinkies on the Friday night, starting at a square near La Rambla at a bar called the Glacier, then moving onto a bar called Schilling. Both recommendable. Glacier is a bit more chilled, Schilling was a bit achingly hip (be warned the toilets are gross, take napkins from your table.) It was 3am and the night was still young so we hopped in a taxi to go to a club called Razzamattazz. Rolling up to the biggest club in Barcelona at 3am isnt a brilliant idea, neither is trying to blag your way in the VIP line when you cant speak the language and/or are a bit tipsy.. both of which we tried. We decided to head up the road and found another club, just as pumping with no line. It was great and not just because of the crazy Spanish tunes they were playing. Since I wasnt there to pick up, I had absolutely no concern for how my dancing was looking to everyone else so I went for gold. It didn't help that I was a little "under the weather" by that stage. We tried to leave a bit earlish to beat the crowds for a cab but still found ourselves waiting forever. There is a fantastic chippie near the metro up the road which was too good to miss at that stage. It was unfortunate that the night finished with Sharon's sister Donna getting mugged but such is life or Barcelona at least.

Im still naming my photos but they are all there on Flickr, so I will post one here too. I checked out Sharon's other sisters play at Chelsea Theatre. Called "Touched" it was the last show in a short run. It was for their last year of drama school.

My legs are sooooo sore. I went to the Columbia Road Flower Market with Retna and picked up some flowers (3 bunches for a fiver *adopts Cockney accent) and some stones for the big plant that is in our apartment. It was windy and rainy and I had to ride home with 10kgs of stones (at least) and managed to strain all my muscles. I went to the leisure centre for a spa/steam room but they still ache.. ouch!

Beggr.com

Beggr.com - someone I know did this and sent it to me last night, I was like Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot!!!!! (WTF in other words) and apparently its taken off... its on del.ici.ous and Zeldman has been emailing him, Ive even heard Yahoo! is buying him (Dont forget the !) I have no idea how much money he has made though.

Meanwhile, sorry about the lack of posts. I should apoloogize to myself for lack of sleep as it feels like I haven't had any for weeks. Barcelona was great except for Sharon's sister getting mugged but I'm going to have to do a post update and tell you how it all was. I went to a comedy gig Monday and had my last session of acupuncture last night.. between washing and cooking and trying to sleep Tues/Wed, its all been mental. As for work, its results season so Im up to my ears in Annual Reports. I think thats as much as Im allowed to say on that. My friend Ret was moaning about having to go to LFW (London Fashion Week) and Im like fashion.. *turns green with jealousy.

Soooo.. Im here, Im alive and should be onto that posting thing and photos from Spain like sometime soon.. *adds it to Tasks list on shiny new PDA (Palm Z22 - Phil bought me for Valentines Day! Bless!)

Im off to Barcelona.. *dances

Only a few hours and Im off to (hopefully sunny) Barcelona! Very excited to finally get an Espanol stamp on my passporto. Also good because my tardiness has put me in the bad books at Teh Office™ again. I would write more about that but I don't want to get Dooced... hmm yes.

Anyways if you have Freeview apparently Film Four is crossing the divide from PayTV. I mean not that I really get a chance to watch TV but if and when I do, Ill be chuffed to find some films instead of one of the following.. Friends, Reality TV or DIY shows...

Im starving! Since we have a few hours before our flight and finish at 1pm, Im going to get some lunch here before I go but when I get back, I want to have a shot on cooking this. It looks soooo tasty.

I will try to post from Barcelona but I seriously doubt it will happen. Until Monday probably!

Last night, I went to the exhibition at the Hayward Gallery to see Dan Flavin. I must admit I was quite disappointed. The pieces are beautiful and visually stunning but I found it lacked depth. There is only so long you can look at a flourescent tube... Haywards exhibitions are usually quite engaging and have that "I wonder how that works type feel to them normally but I went through this exhibition in little more than 30 minutes. Phil and I had a bit of a barney over something ridiculous though and my mind was more on that then art.

I ordered some DVDs off Play.com today. Bought Seasons 2 & 3 of 24. I totally hated the concept of that show when it first come out but Phil got me into Season 4 and now Im hooked. I have Season 1 already and we are watching Season 5 which is playing in the States atm. As Phil would say.. its "great stuff".

More on purchases.. I want one of these.. A New Palm. It has Sudoko!!! I know PDA's are so last century but it would round out my gadget collection nicely. It would also save me loads of money on Sudoko books.

I have to pack tonight! For Barcelona that is. I wish I was excited but Im so knackered atm. I promise Im going to have an early night tonight.

Fashionable Breakfasts

Well been thinking about a nice breakfast at Canteen in Spitalfields after reading the review on London Review of Breakfasts. I might take Phil as a sort of Valentines Day/just because pressie or perhaps catch up with some friends (which provides me with a suitable excuse to be in the region of the Sunday UPmarket).

Speaking of Valentines Day.. Ive been dropping hints to Phil about Interflora and restaurants in the hope he will take the bait. We shall see...

BTW check out this Handbag Has some interesting stuff on fashion trends and whatnot...

I planned some stuff for my Russia/China trips but it looks like they are going to set me back £500/£1500 respectively.. ouch!

Tesco, every little doesn't help

So, this afternoon I went down to Tesco to do my shopping. As per usual, I rode my bike (can you see where this is going already?).. I had to ride up towards the now closed Safeway/Morrisons on Roman Road first to drop some clothes off in the charity bin there. I turned back and headed off towards Tesco. I parked my bike outside, in the same spot as usual. Since it was already dark I had my lights on. I thought better take them off just in case. There was a guy talking on his mobile outside and I just got that funny feeling that he was a bit dodgy. He headed in to Tesco so I just thought to myself, dont be silly, you have a bike lock. Imagine my dismay when I walk outside after doing my shopping to find my bike still there but my seat gone. Thats right - someone obviously thought they needed my bike seat more than I and removed it from my bike. How shitty is that? I had a bike I couldn't ride and a backpack and 2 big bags of shopping. I pulled out my mobile phone to find the battery was dead and I had no change for the phone. I was pissed off. If every little helps, how about having a little security out the front of your store?

The irony is just not lost that I had gone and done something for charity just before. My parents think Im a snob for living in Bow Quarter with its pool and gym and bar blah blah blah but I honestly chose here because I didn't feel safe in the last place I lived in. We were burgled twice in less than 4 months. My housemate got mugged on the way from the tube. I like walking in my front door now and knowing my stuff will still be here. If there is one thing to come out of it, is that when something like this happens, I just lose that little bit more faith in humanity and thats a shame because London is one place you need it most.

Thank God its Friday!!!

OMG Im sooo excited that its Friday and except for tonight, I have hardly anything on so I can spend the whole weekend chilling out and faffing around with various projects.
Its been so hectic this week, out almost every night doing stuff and next week is just the same. Monday to chill, Tuesday at the Hayward Gallery to see Dan Flavin. Wednesday at yoga and Thursday arvo its off to Barcelona til Sunday. I dont think Im going to get any respite the next week either.

Tonight Im off to The Langley to celebrate Birgit's birthday. Its in Covent Garden and frankly I think its going to be a little too hip for me. Plus, its in the middle of tourist central. Sheree kindly pointed out to me that I used to be a tourist but not really, I only had like a day or two to be a tourist before I actually had to figure out how to use the escalators and realise that there is a London outside of Queen Liz's place/Tower of London/Zone 1. I suppose they arent all bad.

Jose Gonzales - Live, Last Night, Sold Out

Jose Gonzales @ 12 Tonar
Originally uploaded by Lexiphanic.

OMG, I just wrote a whole review and then accidently closed the window... duh! So last night... Jose.. I think Sharon is even more in love with him after last night. It was a pretty good gig especially once he got over his nerves and slowed things down. He rushed through the first few songs but once he got to "Hand on your heart" (Kylie cover) and "Teardrop" (Massive Attack cover) it was unbelievably good. Catch him while tickets are still a tenner and you dont have to buy them from some dodgy geezer on the corner. Indeed.

We had a quick bite at Chop Chop Noodle Bar beforehand (except it was in Shepherds Bush not Fulham) Very cheap - a little over a fiver for a main, a drink and a shared entree - but abysmal service. We didn't know you were supposed to fill out your card yourself and when we called the waitress over, she berated us for not having our order filled out. Instead of waiting 2 seconds for us to do it, she walked off and ignored us for another 10 minutes. After waiting about 20 minutes for my main to come out(by which time Sharon had almost finished) we asked where my meal was to which she just shrugged and mumbled rudely and walked off. No tip for you tiger. If you're hungry and broke, then its a great place to go.

Go Fulham

So last night we went to the football at Craven Cottage to see Fulham play Tottenham. Fulham Won! w00t! See the BBC article here about the match. There were loads of full proper geezers running around and even more police. I have to admit Tottenham have some well proper songs and loads better than the only Fulham one I heard "Cmon Fulham, Cmon Fulham"... Its a bit unimaginative. We could even see the footballers wives from where we were sitting. I was trying to see someone famous but all I could see was platinum hair and fake tan. I can finally say that I have been to see Premiership football here but I must admit Im an AFL girl at heart... aww!

I have to finish up because Im off to see Jose Gonzales at Shepherds Bush Empire tonight and it starts in less than an hour.. arggh!! Pics to follow (of the match).
