Russell Davies’ Guide on How to be Interesting…
I’m always concerned I’m not very interesting. It must be that old confidence thing I mentioned a few blog posts ago. I was looking at friend’s events on Lanyrd* and stumbled onto an “Interesting” event and then Russell Davies’ blog… and this wonderful post…
- Take at least one picture everyday. Post it to flickr.
AW: I definitely upload pictures to Flickr but not every day. - Start a blog. Write at least one sentence every week.
AW: Blog - Check! I’m getting close to averaging that a week. - Keep a scrapbook.
AW: I used to keep a scrapbook but I’d prefer something digital to physical, which adds clutter. Thinking about joining FFFound for this… Got an invite? Get in touch! - Every week, read a magazine you’ve never read before
AW: Again, I don’t really like magazines but I might add a list of subjects I’d like to learn more about. - Once a month interview someone for 20 minutes, work out how to make them interesting. Podcast it.
AW: This is interesting. Need to come up with some standard questions for this. - Collect something.
AW: I document the recipes that I cook for dinner every night on this Twitter account: Cooking This Week. That counts right? - Once a week sit in a coffee-shop or cafe for an hour and listen to other people’s conversations. Take notes. Blog about it. (Carefully).
AW: The things I would hear if I did this every Saturday at Broadway Market. Might try this actually and sketchnote it. - Every month write 50 words about one piece of visual art, one piece of writing, one piece of music and one piece of film or TV. Do other art forms if you can. Blog about it.
AW: This is easy. I may have to write about Gossip Girl though! - Make something
AW: I’ve been trying to do a monthly dinner party for friends, I’ve got knitting needles and a sewing machine on the way - Check! - Read: Understanding Comics
by Scott McCloud, The Mezzanine
by Nicholson Baker and The Visual Display of Quantitative Information
- Edward Tufte.
AW: I’ve added all these three to Bookmooch and my Amazon wishlist. I have lots of books in my still to read pile so trying not to buy anymore at the moment.
* Congratulations to Natimon on the recent funding of Lanyrd.
