Hawksmoor, Seven Dials - Bar Burgers
It was a sad week. After more than four and a half years, it was my final week at Yahoo!. We’d often talked about having an extravagant lunch at Hawksmoor Seven Dials but had never really gotten around to it. On the final week there was no more excuses, so a group of us trundled off to Hawksmoor with the hope of nabbing a spot in the bar.
We were lucky, as they had space for all of us. So we propped up at the high bar tables, ordered a beer and a burger (except for my non-wheat eating colleague who plumped for a fancy steak) and commiserated the end of an era.
The burger would have to go down as one of the most satisfying burgers I’ve ever eaten. I went for the Hawksmoor Hamburger — a 100% well-loved Longhorn, including small nuggets of bone marrow. Topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Pickle & Ogleshield Cheese or Colston Bassett Stilton — I went for the Ogleshield and as you can see by the picture it is a perfect burger cheese.
The burger maintained its construction whilst I ate it and the burger bun didn’t get too soggy on the bottom. I don’t think there are any other superlatives that I can use for Hawkmoor’s burgers. If you like burgers, you should just go there. Soon. Now even.
The Triple-Cooked Chips didn’t disappoint either. There was an even split between these and the Beef-Dripping Chips on the table. I preferred the traditional chips as the beef-dripping chips were a tad too chunky for me. Both were super crispy and crunchy, with a soft fluffy potato on the inside.
All up — burger, chips, beer and service — the bill nudged close to £30 each. One word of warning, it’s not the best option if you plan to be productive in the afternoon. It took a good two coffees to shake off my food coma!
