DIBI Conference 2011, Newcastle

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending this year’s DIBI Conference held in the Sage Gateshead, Newcastle. I’ll confess that the main reason I went was to see my husband speak at his first major conference event but it was a really enjoyable day and something different from the research / UX events that I normally attend.

Big thank you to Gavin Elliot for his wonderful organising skills — and thanks for putting us up in the lovely Malmaison hotel too! Here are my sketchnotes from the day, I hope you enjoy.

E Pellici, Bethnal Green - Breakfast

E Pellici’s had long been on my list of places to try. Having moved to East London in 2005, I would travel past it on my way to and from work each day. Admiring the beautiful Grade II listed facade, I had read excellent things about their breakfasts and how the Kray brothers had been fond of the food there.

Brad waiting for his breakfast

That evening we planned to celebrate Brad’s 30th birthday but during the day we had to head into central London to purchase a pair of Trickers for Brad to wear to the wedding. I needed a little bit of a sweetener to get him out of bed and moving so early on a Saturday morning…

Breakfast!

That sweetener was the fry-up shown above. Brad opted for the full works - bacon, fried eggs, mushrooms, tomato and sausages. I went slightly off-piste and chose bacon, bubble and toast. Service was swift enough and I loved the waiter calling back to his Mum in the kitchen whenever he took someone’s order.

If this was close enough to be our local, I’d be in here all the time but as it’s a bus ride away, it looks like we’ll stick to the cafe around the corner. If you fancy reading more about E Pellici’s history, check out Classic Cafes.

The International Day of Awesome

As part of the International Day of Awesome, they suggested writing a blog post about someone you think epitomizes the ideals of awesomeness. If there was anyone who epitomized awesomeness, it is my soon-to-be husband, Bradley Wright.

Not only is he so awesome, that he even has his own awesome pose — The Awesome Pose of Bradley Wright — he’s one of the most talented web developers out there… he even built this website for me! Plus anyone who can put up living with me, deserves a medal.

I’m sure you’re all retching at this super, sappy post, so I’ll finish it here!
